This release is the very first for this wine and we are excited about it! The personality of this Pinot Noir is delicate and opulent, feminine and complex, pretty and balanced, a classic Oregon Pinot Noir from a cooler region. The aromas of dried fruit, raspberry jam, and red currant combine with dried violets and baking spice. These characters carry through onto the palate and then blanket your mouth with smooth, rich flavors. The 2023 vintage is our tenth working with this fruit - already! And this particular vintage of Mount Richmond Pinot Noir is possibly our favorite. It has depth, lushness, structure, and complexity all perfectly dialed in to make an especially delicious and enjoyable wine. During our staff tasting of this wine, we explored the differences between Boysenberries and Marionberries, both of which have ample representation in this vintage. Boysenberries are a combination of a red raspberry, blackberry, and logan berry. Marionberries are small blackberries of a special cross that was actually developed in Oregon. Both have the depth and richness of a blackberry, while the boysenberry adds a red element to the flavor. We find all of these flavors in this wine. The 2022 vintage is our ninth working with this fruit, and with time, we have achieved an exquisite balance between the fruit, tannin, acid, and overall structure. This vineyard lends itself to dense, full-bodied Pinot Noirs, and we love this! It is a beautiful, deep, complex, balanced wine.

At first, a touch of earthiness then opens to bold expressive fruit. That fruit is an explosion of the aromas you find when you put your finger nail into the skin of a tangerine. We know this sounds a little unexpected, but sometimes an aroma is powerful and precise. Once you have had this initial, heady experience, then the floral notes and dark fruits start to peek through. Black mountain raspberry, boysenberries, and violets have been common descriptors for this wine, and this vintage is no exception. This wine is fairly classic, old-world style Pinot Noir, but with a big splash of new world influence. By old-world, we mean it has a savory earthiness to it. However, the floral notes of lilac, violets, and rose petals combined with its round, fruitful palate make it a beautiful combination of the two styles. A creamy mid-palate with nice acidity to balance makes this a beautiful food wine. It has weight, complexity, and balance, all brought together in a harmonious blend.
