We really like the balance that we were able to achieve with the 2018 vintage, one that accommodates a lushness without being gooey. The nose of this wine is filled with black raspberries, dark cherry preserves, and dried fig. These characters all follow through to a complex and rich palate that adds cassis, black pepper, dark floral notes of violets, fine-grained tannins, and a tiny throughline of pumpkin seed. The 2018 vintage was warm, and we were expecting a more tannic vintage, so we were extra careful in managing the fruit keeping this in mind. The result is a beautiful lush wine that is perfectly in balance. The nose of this wine is filled with red fruit, strawberry, mango, red delicious apple, Rainier cherries and laced with deep floral notes of lilac blossoms and dark red rose petals. This is not your normal Merlot, but it is typical of our style of Merlot. It is very concentrated and polished. This Merlot is a beauty! The nose is loaded with black cherries, spiced red plums, and cassis. It also has the delicate aromas of wild mountain strawberries. The mouth follows through with those red and blue fruit characters with a bit of tar and graphite. It is complex and seamless, with tannins that are refined in a long finish. This is brilliant, classic Washington State Cabernet Sauvignon. From start to finish, intense and focused dark plum and velvety blackberries fill your senses. Dark cocoa, cinnamon, and clove mingle with a tiny bit of graphite, bringing spice to a rich, dense, balanced wine. This is a big mouthful of lush, complexity, and the finish, well, it really doesn’t finish until you have had a nice long, lingering encounter. This wine has been a long time in the making. We poured it as a barrel sample at our launch party in the summer of 2016. It was showing beautifully then, which is a bit unusual for such a young wine, and it has only gotten better with time.
