2018 Pinot Noir, Artist Series, Four 1.5L

Artist Series number Four by: Kerrie Abbott
European Hazlenut (Corylus avellana), Colored Pencil

2018 Pinot Noir, Beize Vineyard, Eola-Amity Hills, Oregon, Pommard Clone

The hazelnut, or filbert, is a beautiful, nut-producing tree or large shrub. The modest size and over-arching shape of these moss-covered trees, aligned in symmetrical rows, make the orchards especially enchanting and magical. As much as ninety-eight percent of the hazels cultivated in the United States are grown in Oregon's Willamette Valley.

We had the opportunity to work with fruit from this emaculate, coveted vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA just this one vintage. But we were interested in seeing what fruit from this area would be like and it is lovely...more

2016 Pinot Noir, Artist Series, Two 1.5L

Artist Series number Two by: Kerrie Abbott
Oregon White Oak (Quercus garryana), Colored Pencil

2016 Pinot Noir, La Dolce Vita Vineyards

This particular image, the second in a set of three, studies the Oregon White Oak, beautiful trees common to our new surroundings in Oregon.

This La Dolce Vita Pinot Noir represents the varietal well, showing wild raspberry, boysenberry, and a touch of black currant. If you are a mushroom hunter, you will appreciate the added descriptor of forest floor, which is combined with some fruity herbs like pineapple sage and a hint of eucalyptus. This wine is well rounded, approachable, and ready to enjoy, though the larger bottles will tuck away for a while, too. But why do that when the holidays are around the corner?...more

2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, Artist Series Five 1.5L

Artist Series Number Five by: Hiroko Cannon
Green Darner (Anax junius), Watercolor

2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, Bacchus Vineyard, White Bluffs, Washington, One Select Barrel

Following the idea of our first four artist series labels, number five features an image from our label icon, the Green Darner Dragonfly. These beautiful creatures, with their shimmery, translucent coloring, are commonly found in our streams, ponds, and marshes. Watery locations such as these, provide hunting grounds in an annual migratory loop that takes at least three generations to complete! The wine is one special barrel of Cabernet Sauvignon from Bacchus Vineyard Block 9b...more

2017 Pinot Noir, Artist Series, Three 1.5L

Artist Series number Three by: Kerrie Abbott
Pacific Bleeding Heart (Dicentra formosa), Colored Pencil

2017 Pinot Noir, Freedom Hill Vineyard, Pommard Clone, Whole Cluster, One Select Barrel

This label is the third in a set created for us by John’s sister, Kerrie. The Pacific Bleeding Heart (Dicentra formosa), taken from our emblem, is the image for this label. Given all that has happened in this difficult year of 2020, it seemed appropriate.

This is one special barrel from Freedom Hill Vineyard that was whole-cluster fermented, a technique we rarely use. In fact, our state-of-the-art equipment is designed precisely to remove all stem material. However, Pinot Noir can benefit from stem contact in special vintages when the conditions are right. We haven't had that opportunity since, but we look forward to more in the future. Some of you may recall barrel tasting this during open house weekends in 2018. Because it was so beautiful and interesting from the very start, we just couldn't resist. It is bottled only in magnums and is the third in the set of labels created by John's sister, Kerrie....more

2014 Pinot Noir, Artist Series, One 1.5L

Artist Series number One by: Kerrie Abbott-Phillips
Western White Ginger (Asarum caudatum), Colored Pencil

2014 Pinot Noir, Oregon State
Blend: 60% Freedom Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir, Wadenswil clone | 40% Mount Richmond Vineyard Pinot Noir, Pommard clone

This image studies one piece of our label and was inspired by vintage botanical drawings. The Western White Ginger, a wild, edible plant found in the forests of Oregon, is a favorite of ours for its beauty and culinary properties.

As for the wine, the 2014 Artist Series Pinot Noir has a nose of fresh rose petals, silky black raspberries, and wild mountain strawberries. I also find an aroma like an elderberry pie I once had. Plenty of that old-school, stony mineral character combines with lush layers of red fruit and spice. It has great balance and elegance that will continue to develop with additional cellaring, but you could also enjoy it this holiday season....more
